Shear Delights is a cook book Sophie couldn't resist ordering for the store. Here's why...
A month or so ago my Mum was flicking through The Land newspaper and spotted a story about Shear Delights and she asked if it was something I could get for the store - I instantly thought yes!
It struck a chord because much of my childhood was spent in shearing sheds because my Dad was a shearer, and now my brother is a shearer. I also spent a lot of time at my Grandparents farm, especially while shearing was on and I witnessed the magnificent menu my beautiful Grandmother, Margaret prepared for our shearers and roustabouts.
I spent a year working and living on a cattle station in the Northern Territory and had a week filling in for our cook and wish I had a copy of this back then!
Written and published by Carolyn Rees, this new cookbook has been about 30 years in the making and started in a little outback kitchen on a sheep station in Western NSW.
It features 144 recipes straight from the kitchen of a shearers cook and as Carolyn mentions, they have been cooked hundreds of times and happily consumed by shearers, truckies, family and friends and the odd surprise visitor.
We have sold copies to local families in and around the Grenfell region and posted some to stations across Australia. Whether you are catering for shearers or not, there are some lovely recipes in here we know you will enjoy.
